Machine Wood Working
A one-year course designed to provide experience in woodworking for the student. Emphasis will be on the use of machines, as well as hand tools in the development of a variety of projects. The first few projects will be teacher-selected (or required). If a satisfactory competency is achieved, the student may continue working on projects of his/her choice. Materials will be purchased by the student. Students completing Wood 1 in the fall may enroll in this course in the spring if space is available and the student has the instructor’s approval.
Construction Technology
A one-year course designed to introduce students to various aspects of the construction industry. Students will learn transferable skills and concepts used in home construction, general plumbing, electrical work, and hand/machine tool use. Students will also learn fundamental skills and concepts in blueprint reading, planning and design, and basic safety techniques. In addition, career preparation skills will be highlighted, emphasizing topics such as job seeking skills, time management, and resume development.
ROP Cabinetry
A one year course in cabinet making skills. Students must have knowledge of basic woodworking techniques and machinery. At least one year of high school woodworking is required for entry into the class. The course is offered on the Piner High campus under the supervision of the Sonoma County Office of Education.
Building Trades and Construction PathwayThis program is designed to provide experience in the use of machines, as well as hand tools, in the development of a variety of woodworking and construction related projects. Students completing this pathway will have developed a wide range of experience and training that will prepare them for an entry-level position or to further their education at a two or four year college, trade, or technical school.
